A Practical Nursing Program was
established in Fayette County in May 1966. The first,
fourteen-member class graduated in May of 1967. Since
that first graduating class, more then 1000 men and
women have graduated from the
Fayette County Area Vocational-Technical School
Practical Nursing Program.
The school of Practical Nursing was
first located in Hopwood, PA. In July of 1976 the
Practical Nursing Program moved to its present location
at the Fayette County Area Vocational-Technical School
in Fairchance, PA.
The continued success for the Practical
Nursing Program allowed for construction of a nursing
suite, annexed to the North Wing of the Fayette County
Area Vocational-Technical School.
The Practical Nursing Program has occupied the present
facilities since February of 1983.
The Fayette County Area
Vocational-Technical School sponsors the Practical
Nursing Program. The Practical Nursing Program maintains
approval from the Pennsylvania State Board of Nursing,
the Pennsylvania of Education, and has accreditation
status from the National League for Nursing Accrediting
Commission Inc. (NLNAC). Graduates of the Fayette County
Area Vocational-Technical School Practical Nursing Program
meet the educational requirements of the Pennsylvania State
Board of Nursing and are eligible to take the NCLEX-CAT-PN
for licensure in the state of Pennsylvania.
