There are many questions that prospective students have about the Fayette County Area Vocational Technical School. | Q. How do I apply to become a high school student at FCAVTS? |
| A. You must fill out an application Then you must give the application to the school you are now attending. Your present school will send us your grades and attendance records. Contact your guidance office or the FCAVTS for more information. |
| Q. What does it cost to attend Grades 10-12 at a Technical High School? |
| A. If you are a student in Albert Gallatin, Brownsville, Laurel Highlands, or Uniontown, it's free. |
| Q. How do I know which trade program to choose? |
| A. Our ninth-grade tours and visits will help you decide. Ninth graders may have an opportunity to participate in tours and shop visits, which allows them to see each of our trade offerings. Students can sign up to visit two shops, spending approximately an hour in each and gaining hands-on experience in a vocational technical environment. These visits can help you decide which trade you would like to pursue. |
| Q. Is there transportation from our home schools to the FCAVTS? |
| A. Yes. All home schools provide bus transportation to the Fayette County Area Vocational Technical School. |
| Q. Will I receive a high school diploma? |
| A. Yes. In addition to receiving instruction and experience in your trade area, you will also earn a High School Diploma from your sending school and a Completers Certificate if you complete three years in your trade area. |
| Q. Can I go to college if I attend a Technical High School? |
| A. Absolutely! In fact, about 30 percent of our graduating seniors go on to further education; many have been accepted at colleges and universities throughout the United States. Also, through Tech Prep and Dual Enrollment programs students may earn college credits while attending the FCAVTS. Many of our programs also have articulation agreements with trade and technical schools, colleges and universities. The skills and knowledge that you acquire gives you an advantage by being better prepared for your future. |
| Q. Why don't you want to take ninth grade students any more? |
| A. The home schools decided that it was in the ninth grade students' best interest to stay at the home school to better prepare them for PSSA tests. The faculty and staff at the FCAVTS understand the need for better PSSA scores. |
| Q. What can I do if I have more questions? |
| A. If you are a high school student and you are interested in any of our programs contact the Guidance Office at extension 206. If you are an adult and interested in day or evening classes, or it is between June and August contact the Administration Office at extension 100. |
