+ - Financial Aid Click to collapse

Financial Aid is available for qualified applicants and students enrolled in the Practical Nursing Program. Financial need is determined by the difference between the cost of the program and the amount of money the student or family can be expected to provide, based on a formula established by the U.S. Congress.

The U.S. Department of Education Assistance Agency offers load aid to eligible students who are enrolled. Applications for loans can be obtained from local banks and lending institutions.

Each student who wishes to participate in either Pell Grant of PHEAA Loan Programs will be required to complete the Free Application For Federal Student (FAFSA). The program coordinator will provide these forms to students. Verification of income in the form of income tax records, social security, or other benefit summaries may be required before student aid will be computed.

The Practical Nursing Program also participates with the Workforce Investment Act (Career Link), TRA, Veterans Administration, Bureau of Vocational Rehabilitation, and the U.S. Army to supply financial and educational aid for students. Eligible applicants should apply to those organizations.

The Pennsylvania Department of Education provides funding to partially offset the operating costs of occupational training, including that provided in practical nursing programs in Pennsylvania. There attempt is to encourage occupational training for youth and adults while allowing programs to maintain lower student tuition costs.

To be eligible to receive Federal Financial Aid through the Fayette County Career & Technical Institute Practical Nursing Program, the student must:

  • Have filled out Free Application for Federal Student Aid
  • Be enrolled in an approved course of study
  • Have a high school diploma or G.E.D. certificate
  • Be a U.S. citizen or eligible non-certificate
  • Make satisfactory academic progress
  • Register with the Selective Service if required
  • Not be a default on a Title IV Loan
  • Not to owe a refund on a Title IV Grant

Each class enrolled in the Fayette County Career & Technical Institute Practical Nursing Program can apply for Pell Grant funds in two financial aid years.

September Classes

Enrolled class members must file the initial FAFSA by September 15th.

March Classes

Enrolled class members must file the initial FAFSA by March 15th. Second FAFSA must be filed by May 1st.

A student who has begun the program may apply for financial aid throughout the period of enrollment. If a student withdraws from The Fayette County Career & Technical Institute Practical Nursing Program, he/she will be reviewed for a refund of tuition paid in excess of the non refundable $200.00 deposit fee.

Official withdrawal must be made in writing. Non-attendance, notification to an instructor, or telephone calls to the office, DOES NOT constitute official withdrawal.

+ - Refund Policy Click to collapse

If a student withdraws from the Fayette County Career & Technical Institute Practical Nursing Program, the student must be aware that it may affect the amount of financial aid they are entitled to receive.  Non-attendance, notification to an instructor, or telephone calls to the Program Office, do not constitute an official withdrawal.  The withdrawal date is defined as the last day a student attended class, clinical experience, or the date of the withdrawal letter.  The number of hours from the first day of class to the withdrawal date is the number of hours completed.

In accordance with Federal regulations, those students who received federal financial aid and who withdraw will have their federal financial aid adjusted based on the percent of the term completed prior to withdrawal.  That is, students will be entitled to retain the same percent of the federal financial aid received as the percent of the term completed.  This percent is calculated using the Federal Funds worksheet.

EXAMPLE

# OF HOURS COMPLETED
# OF HOURS IN THE TERM
= % OF AID EARNED

100% - % OF AID EARNED =% OF FUNDS TO BE RETURNED

Student fees and cost for expendable items are not refundable.  Please note that students who receive a refund of financial aid for educational expenses prior to withdrawing from Fayette County Career & Technical Institute, Practical Nursing Program, may owe a repayment of those funds.& nbsp; Students will be contacted in such situations and will be given 30 days to repay those funds to Fayette County Career & Technical Institute, Practical Nursing Program.  Students who fail to return the unearned portion of federal aid funds given to them, will become ineligible for continued receipt of any future financial aid until such time as the repayment is made.  The unearned Title IV funds will be returned to the appropriate financial aid programs in the following order:

  1. Federal Unsubsidized Safford Loan
  2. Federal Stafford Loan (Subsidized)
  3. Federal Plus Loan
  4. Pell Grant
  5. Other Federal Student Financial Assistance
  6. Student

No Refund of $25.00 or less will be made.
